TUSCALOOSA | Think University of Alabama football coach Mike Shula’s job is in jeopardy?
Not according to University president Robert Witt.
Attending a reception Thursday during which the football building was named after Athletics Director Mal Moore, Witt backed Shula despite the Crimson Tide’s recent woes.
“I signed a contract and extension for Coach Shula this year, and I can’t think of a stronger statement of support than that," Witt told The Tuscaloosa News.
Shula has come under fire from fans after a 24-16 loss at Bryant-Denny Stadium last week - a defeat that dropped the Tide to 6-4 for the season.
Alabama plays LSU on Saturday in Baton Rouge, La. Kickoff is set for 6:45 p.m., and the game will be televised by ESPN.
