PREP BOYS ROUNDUP: Pickens County stuns Tuscaloosa County, 49-30

NORTHPORT | Billy Byrd scored 16 points as the Class 2A Pickens County Tornadoes stunned the Class 6A Tuscaloosa County Wildcats 49-30 on Friday night in boys high school basketball action.

Michael Williams added 11 points for Pickens County.

Fentress Lockett led Tuscaloosa County with nine points.

The Tornadoes led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter, 30-15 at halftime and 40-25 heading into the final period.

Tuscaloosa County (2-5) travels to Fayette County on Monday.

TUSCALOOSA | Cory Smith scored 21 points and Jamey Warmley had 17 as the Pleasant Grove Spartans defeated the Central Falcons.

Justin Cummings added 16 points for the Spartans.

Justin Knox led Central with a game-high 26 points and 15 rebounds. Marsellos Wilder had 12 points.

The first quarter ended in a 13-13 tie, before Pleasant Grove took a 35-30 halftime lead. Heading into the final period, the Falcons trailed 56-44.

Central (3-3) hosts Tuscaloosa County on Tuesday night.

SAMANTHA | Dominque Jones led the way for the Gordo Greenwave scoring a game-high 20 points in the championship game of the Northside Invitational Tournament.

Sedric Washington added 14 points, and Early Jones chipped in with 12.

Northside led after the first quarter 16-7, 33-21 at the half, and 47-29 after the third.

Matt Gray scored 17 points for Northside, and Cameron Nichols added 11.

Northside (3-3) will host Holt on Tuesday.

BROOKWOOD | Derrick Brown scored 17 points as the West Blocton Tigers outlasted the Brookwood Panthers in double overtime.

Frankie Williams, Corey Cook and Jervaris Kelser each scored 11 points for West Blocton.

Hunter Oglesby scored a game-high 22 points for the Panthers, while Tyler Davis had 14.

West Blocton rallied from a 38-30 third-quarter deficit and tied the score 40-40 to force overtime. The first overtime ended in a 49-49 stalemate, before the Tigers outscored the Panthers 10-2 in the second overtime.

Brookwood (4-6) hosts its Christmas Tournament next Friday night.

TUSCALOOSA | Byron Windham scored a game-high 26 points and Steve Tucker had 14 as the Parrish Purple Tornadoes defeated the Holy Spirit Titans.

Jziquori Gaines and Izzaih House each had 13 points for the Parrish.

Rudy Harrison led the Titans with 24 points and Jarad Jackson had 16.

The Purple Tornadoes led 21-19 at the end of the first quarter, 34-27 at halftime and 50-38 heading into the final period.

Holy Spirit (2-2) travels to Brookwood next Friday for the Brookwood Christmas Tournament.

SAMANTHA | Cameron Hebert scored 20 points and added eight assists for the Berry Wildcats in the consolation game of the Northside Invitational Tournament.

Russell Pendley added a double-double, scoring 10 points and adding 14 rebounds. Zack Glasgow chipped in with 11 points.

Berry led after the first quarter 24-10, 32-20 at the half, and 49-28 to end the third.

Berry (1-4) hosts Marion County tonight.

SULLIGENT | Sulligent had four players score in double figures in the Blue Devils’ victory.

Bontae Hendrix scored 12 points, and Myers Dean added 11. Cruz Bonman and Caleb Massey both added 10 points.

Sulligent led after the first quarter 24-4, 48-17 at the half, and 62-29 at the end of the third.

Justin Brock scored 18 for South Lamar.

Sulligent (3-1) will host Guin on Monday.
