ATLANTA | University of Alabama basketball coach Mark Gottfried said today that Tide center Jermareo Davidson was "questionable" for Thursday's game against Kentucky, the first game of the 2007 SEC Tournament.

University of Alabama center Jermareo Davidson injured his back in the Tide's regular season closer against Mississippi State Sunday.

Davidson has been nursing a sore back since the Tide's loss at Mississippi State last Sunday and was unable to practice in the Georgia Dome at UA's scheduled workout.

"It's bothering me a little," Davidson said. "I'd say right now it's up in the air."

"Right now, I'd say he's questionable," Gottfried said.

"It started bothering him in the second half of the Mississippi State game. We came home and he went to the training room on Sunday night and again on Monday morning. He's been getting treatement, but it hasn't gotten better as quickly as we had hoped. I was hoping he could do more today, but he couldn't."

Freshman Demetrius Jemison would probably start in Davidson's place if the back does not improve before the Kentucky game.

Tide point guard Ron Steele did work out at the Georgia Dome and is expected to play against Kentucky.

"I feel better about the chances of Ron playing than I do Jermareo," Gottfried said. "Ron is not going to be 100 percent, but we will see how effective he can be."
