TUSCALOOSA | University of Alabama redshirt freshman Brian Motley has a broken ankle and will miss 6-8 weeks, Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said today.
Saban spoke about Motley during the SEC Coaches Teleconference. He is expected to address the issue again with local media after practice Wednesday.
On Monday, Motley, a converted offensive lineman, was announced as the starting nose guard for Saturday’s season opener against Western Carolina.
He was already playing with a small cast on his right hand and wrist due to an injury which required surgery.
Depth at the position was already a serious concern, given that sophomore Lorenzo Washington was the only player with game experience after taking 32 snaps last season.
Behind Washington on the depth chart are true freshmen Josh Chapman and Alfred McCullough.
