TUSCALOOSA | University of Alabama assistant football coach Ron Middleton is expected to accept a position as assistant head coach for the Duke Blue Devils, perhaps as soon as today.
Numerous published reports have linked Middleton, who coached special teams for the Tide, with the Duke opening. There was no official comment from either the Alabama or Duke athletic departments concerning Middleton’s status on Wednesday.
Middleton worked for new Duke head coach David Cutcliffe while Cutcliffe was the head coach at Ole Miss. Middleton was on the Rebel staff from 1999 through 2003.
He joined the Alabama staff last January after spending three years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He served as special teams coach for the Crimson Tide this season.
Middleton, a native of Atmore, played college football at Auburn.
