Tide gets needed win in men's basketball

TUSCALOOSA | A 3-pointer by junior guard Brandon Hollinger with just over 2 minutes to play, and dunks by Alonzo Gee and Richard Hendrix in the final moments sealed the victory as the University of Alabama men’s basketball team defeated LSU, 81-72, Saturday at Coleman Coliseum.

Senior guard Mykal Riley led the Crimson Tide with 19 points, 16 of which came in the first half, and Hendrix match his point production while also grabbing 17 rebounds.

Alabama trailed only twice, 48-46 and 50-49 with approximately 12 minutes remaining in the game. LSU guard Marcus Thornton, who finished with 22 points, was the key reason for the Tigers’ comeback.

Alabama improved to 13-9, 2-5 in the SEC. LSU is 8-13, 1-6 SEC.

The coaching staffs of both teams wore tennis shoes with their suits as part of the National Basketball Coaches’ Association’s Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend.
