Alabama travels to Ole Miss today

TUSCALOOSA | The University of Alabama women’s basketball team (8-13 overall, 1-5 in the Southeastern Conference) will play its second straight SEC game in the state of Mississippi when the Crimson Tide faces Ole Miss (8-11, 2-4 SEC) today at 2 p.m.
Ole Miss leads the series 28-16 and has a five-game win streak over the Crimson Tide, including a 78-49 Rebel win in the first round of the 2007 SEC Tournament.
Between 1993 and 2004 Alabama beat Ole Miss 13 of 15 times.
UA coach Stephany Smith is 1-6 all-time against the Rebels. Ole Miss was her first opponent as a head coach at Middle Tennessee State University. Ole Miss won the game in 1998 by 1 point.
The Lady Rebels are coming off a 68-44 loss to No. 2 Tennessee. Shaw Goff paces the Lady Rebels in scoring with 13.3 points per game and is second in rebounding with 7.5 per game. Shantell Black follows with 13 points and a team-leading 107 assists. As a team, Ole Miss is shooting 40 percent and scoring 66 points per game.
Ole Miss reached the NCAA Elite Eight a season ago and returns two starters and nine other letterwinners from the team that went 24-11 overall, the most wins since the 1993-94 team also recorded a total of 24 victories.
Alabama freshman forward Tierney Jenkins broke out of a slump in a big way Tuesday against Mississippi State with 16 points on 8-of-14 shooting in 25 minutes of action. On the season, she leads the Tide with 11.4 points per game and is second with 6.9 rebounds per game.
Alabama will play two straight home games Thursday against No. 8 LSU at 6 p.m. and next Sunday against Vanderbilt at 2 p.m.
