Alabama men's golf tied for third at Puerto Rico Classic

PUERTO RICO | Montgomery's Matthew Swan played his way into one of the two open spots in the University of Alabama's golf lineup for this weekend's Puerto Rico Classic. Today, Swan shot 66, 6-under par, and finish in a tie for first with Georgia Tech's Chesson Hadley.
Alabama's team, which is playing for the first time this season with the five golfers who led it to a sixth-place NCAA finish in 2007, is tied for 3rd of 15 teams. Alabama shot 289 which is 1-over par. Clemson and Oklahoma State share the opening round lead at 4-under, 284. Alabama and East Tennessee are next at 1-over, 189, followed by Northwestern, 290, Michigan, 291, Duke, 292, Virginia Tech, 293, tied at ninth Kent State and No. 1 ranked Georgia, 294, tied at 11th North Carolina State and Georgia Tech, 296, at 13th Texas, 299, Minnesota, 300, and Purdue, 308.
Swan is co-individual leader going into Saturday's second round. Two of his teammates, Michael Thompson and Gator Todd, are tied at 34th at 2-over par, 74. Mark Harrell is tied for 45th at 3-over, 75, and Joseph Sykora is tied for 58th at 5-over par, 77.
