TUSCALOOSA | The University of Alabama men’s golf team’s fifth tournament championship of the season won on Sunday helped slide the Crimson Tide into the No. 1 ranking in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings on Monday. Alabama had previously been ranked second in that poll.

Alabama senior Michael Thompson, who is the No. 7 ranked amateur in the world in the Golfweek/Sagarin amateur rankings, is ranked No. 2 in the college individual rankings. Alabama junior Matthew Swan ranks No. 15 and senior Mark Harrell ranks No. 43 in the Golfweek/Sagarin collegiate rankings.

That gives Jay Seawell’s Alabama team the top spot in both major polls as Alabama is the No. 1 ranked team in the Golf World/Nike Coaches’ poll as well.

Alabama has won a school record five team tournament championships and three individual championships this season. Currently it has won three straight team championships, all three of the spring tournaments it has played so far.
