TUSCALOOSA | University of Alabama junior forward Richard Hendrix said today that he would enter his name in the 2008 NBA draft, but would not hire an agent, leaving the door open to return for his senior year.
"After the season I had to come to a decision," Hendrix said. "I made the decision that I want to enter my name in draft. I do not plan to sign with an agent right now.
"I go into this procedure with the highest hopes and best expectations."
Hendrix said he "hoped" to be a first-round draft choice, but did not put an absolute condition on the possibility of his return.
"That's a decision I'll have to make as I get more feedback. I'm just going to go about this as I have been going, working hard, going to school and getting the best advice.
I had a lot of time over spring break to talk to my parents and coach (Gottfried) and felt this was the best way for me.
"I can't say anything is 100 percent right now. I just want to gather the best information I can and make the decision that is right for me.
"You don't want to make a decision you might end up regretting, but it's all on me. I plan to work as hard as I can
"Coach (Gottfried) told me that he supports me in going through this procedure. I feel like we have a great group of guys here at Alabama. I have no problem with how the team is going to perform. I'm just looking forward to handling this whole process with confidence.
"I'm on pace to graduate in May. I want to focus on academics and make good grades. I plan to work out on campus, work with the strength coaches."
Hendrix led Alabama in scoring (17.8 ppg) and rebounding (10.1 rpg) in 2008. The former McDonald's All-America performer from Athens High School has scored 1,327 points and grabbed 849 rebounds in his Alabama career.
