BIRMINGHAM | The Southeastern Conference announced its 2008 SEC Indoor Track and Field All-Freshman teams Wednesday, honoring the league’s top freshmen finishers in each individual event from the SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Andrew Kirwa (Eldoret, Kenya) and Angelica Howard (Mobile) won the award for the University of Alabama.

Kirwa placed sixth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14.19.94 to give Alabama two runners in the top 10. Kirwa also placed 10th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:19.42, giving the Tide three finishers in the top 10.

Howard put together a solid debut for the Crimson Tide at the SEC Championships by placing seventh in the shot put with a throw of 48-09.50 and by nabbing ninth place in the weight throw with a heave of 52-01.00. Both are personal bests.
