Rowing team hosts SMU at Black Warrior River

TUSCALOOSA | The Alabama rowing team returns home today to face SMU in a dual meet on the Black Warrior River. The meet will feature four races starting at 9 a.m.

For the Crimson Tide, today’s meet will be a welcome change to its last meet, a trip to a blustery and frigid Columbus, Ohio, where they faced national powers Ohio State and Michigan.

The first race will be the Varsity/Novice 4+ at 9 a.m. The Second Varsity 8+ will be next at 9:20 a.m. with the First Varsity 8+ slated to go off at 9:40 a.m. The meet will finish off with the Novice 8+ at 10 a.m.

Fans can watch the races at several vantage points along the Black Warrior, but the best location is the River Road Park East, which is near the finish line for today’s races. With its multi-tiered slope down to the edge of the river, the park is a natural ‘stadium’ for the Crimson Tide. There will be music and giveaways at that location.
