ATHENS, Ga. | The University of Alabama women’s tennis team fell 6-1 today to the ninth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. With the loss, the Tide falls to 6-10 overall and 2-5 in the SEC.

Alabama fell on all three doubles courts to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead heading into singles competition. The top Tide tandem of Andrea Brenes and Alice Tunaru fell to the 25th ranked pair of Kelley and Yvette Hyndman before Shelley Godwin and Bianca Svensson fell to Monica Dancevic and Adrienne Elsberry at No. 3.

In singles, the Tide lost three consecutive matches at nos. two, five and three to give the Bulldogs the match.

Georgia picked up another win on court four before Alabama’s Tiffany Welcher upset No. 56 Kelley Hyndman at No. 1 singles to give the Tide its only point of the match. The freshman defeated Hyndman 6-3, 7-6(1) to get the win.

Alabama returns to action Sunday against Tennessee at the UT Varsity Courts in Knoxville, Tenn.
