BATON ROUGE, La. | The University of Alabama softball team garnered seven All-SEC selections as well as the SEC Freshman of the Year and the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the annual SEC Softball Banquet on Wednesday night.

Kelsi Dunne, a native of Port Orange, Fla., was named the SEC Freshman of the Year. The right-hander compiled a 21-3 record with a 1.30 ERA and 214 strikeouts that ranked second in the league. She was also a first-team All-SEC selection and a SEC All-Freshman pick.

Senior Jordan Praytor was honored as the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She is majoring in biology and Spanish with a 3.75 grade-point average. The three-time All-SEC performer from Vancouver, Wash., hit .299 in league play with five home runs and 18 RBIs.

The Crimson Tide received the SEC Western Division Championship Trophy after posting a 25-3 conference record.

“It was exciting to see our team honored for such a great season,” Alabama coach Patrick Murphy said. “To get seven players on either the first or second team is such an accomplishment. Kelsi [Dunne] had a great year in the circle to capture Freshman of the Year honors and Jordan [Praytor] does such an amazing job of balancing excellence in the classroom and on the field. You couldn’t find anyone more deserving.”

Charlotte Morgan, Kelley Montalvo, Brittany Rogers and Dunne all earned first-team All-SEC recognition. Ashley Holcombe, Dani Woods and Praytor were second-team selections.

Morgan hit .435 with 18 doubles, 15 home runs and 66 RBI while posting a 14-2 record in the circle with a 1.28 ERA. Montalvo drove in 49 runs and hit .416 while making only two errors all season at third base. Rogers, a three-time first-team choice, led the league and the country in stolen bases (53) and runs scored (67) while hitting a team-best .443.

Holcombe’s second-team recognition came after hitting .323 for the season with 12 doubles, five home runs and 21 RBI. She also threw out two six base runners and picked off five. Woods, another three-time All-SEC honoree, produced career highs in home runs (nine), slugging percentage (.625), on-base percentage (.481) and walks (36).

The SEC also named an All-Defensive team and three Alabama players were included. Holcombe was named the top defensive catcher in the league while Montalvo was tabbed the top glove at third base. Brittany Rogers was honored for her defensive prowess in the outfield.

The Crimson Tide opens the SEC Tournament at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La., today at 5 p.m. against Mississippi State.
