Hood had signed a letter of intent to play for the Crimson Tide.

Instead, he will begin his professional baseball career with Washington’s Gulf Coast League affiliate in Viera, Fla.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Hood played football and baseball at St. Paul’s Episcopal High School in Mobile.

Hood, an outfielder, hit .485 with eight home runs, 32 RBIs and 17 steals in his senior season.

He started at defensive back and wide receiver in football.

He caught 56 passes for 995 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior.
