Attorneys for former University of Alabama football player Jimmy Johns have waived a preliminary hearing scheduled in Tuscaloosa District Court today.

Johns faces five counts of distribution of a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance after he allegedly sold cocaine to confidential informants working with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force.

Johns’ attorney, Jim Roberts, said he filed a motion to have today’s hearing waived. The case will continue in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court.

UA head coach Nick Saban removed Johns, 21, off the team after his arrest on June 24. He has since moved back to Mississippi with his family.
