Shaun Alexander signs deal with Redskins

Former University of Alabama star Shaun Alexander signed a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins today, ESPN is reporting.

Alexander will back up Clinton Portis. Washington back-up running back Ladell Betts is out with a knee injury and is expected to miss around three week.

Alexander, 5-foot-11 and 228 pounds, was released by the Seahawks in the offseason. In his eight-year career in Seattle, he rushed for 9,428 yards.
