University of Alabama freshman guard Ericka Russell was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team on Tuesday.
“Ericka is really deserving of this honor,” head coach Wendell Hudson said. “We are excited for her and think this is a big boost for both this team and our program. We have no doubt she is going to help us get Alabama back where we’d like it to be.”
After averaging just eight minutes and scoring zero points in the first two games, Russell scored 14 points in 19 minutes in the Crimson Tide’s third contest of the season at Hampton. Since then, she is averaging 9.9 points per game and has notched a total of 13 double-figure point outings.
Russell's season-best came in Alabama’s conference opener against Vanderbilt when she went off for 25 points, including five 3-pointers. She leads the team in three-point shots made this season with 52.
