TUSCALOOSA | The University of Alabama softball team is going to the Women’s College World Series.
The third-ranked Crimson Tide beat Jacksonville State 9-0 on Saturday to complete an NCAA Super Regional run-rule sweep of the Gamecocks, with Kelsi Dunne becoming the first player in history to throw back-to-back no-hitters in NCAA Tournament play.
Alabama (52-9) punched its ticket to the national championship event, which starts next Thursday in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Dunne (27-3) struck out seven batters and walked one for the five-inning win.
Alabama loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning but only got one run out of the opportunity. Ashley Holcombe drew the bases-loaded walk to make it 1-0.
Shortstop Kellie Eubanks hit a 250-foot solo home run to left-center in the second inning to give the Tide a 2-0 lead.
Alabama loaded the bases again in the third and drew another walk for a 3-0 lead, and Lauren Parker scored on a wild pitch in the fourth after a leadoff triple that highlighted a three-run inning.
Kelly Montalvo’s two-run home run in the fifth brought the run rule into play.
Jacksonville State finished 43-16.
