Men's basketball to host Purdue

The University of Alabama will host Purdue in men’s basketball during the 2009-10 season, according to the Boilermakers’ website.


The Crimson Tide will host the Big Ten team on Dec. 12. Purdue is 3-2 against Alabama all-time and has not visited Tuscaloosa since 1976.

“Our trip to Alabama will be a great challenge for us,” Coach Matt Painter said in a statement. “We are looking forward to a very competitive series.”

Purdue was 27-10 last season, reaching the Sweet 16 before losing to Connecticut. Its top six players all return.

Alabama, with new coach Anthony Grant, has yet to announced its schedule, but will play Kansas State in Mobile on Dec. 19, and will play the Old Spice Classic in Orlando on Thanksgiving weekend along with Florida State, Baylor, Creighton, Iona, Marquette, Michigan and Xavier. The tournament pairings won’t be annoucned until later this month.
