ATLANTA, Ga. | Former University of Alabama quarterback John Parker Wilson made the final roster cut and has landed a job with as the third-team quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League.
Wilson, Alabama's all-time leading passer, beat out former Georgia quarterback D.J. Shockey for the position. Shockey was the third-team quarterback for the Falcons last season.
“I feel like we have a good group of guys in place and I’m looking forward to moving on to the regular season," head coach Mike Smith said in a statement posted on the team's Web site.
Wilson completed 13 of 19 passes for 80 yards and did not throw an interception or a touchdown for a rating of 76.6 in Atlanta's final preseason game last Thursday.
“The more I get familiar with the playbook and the more I go and do it, the easier it’s going to be,” Wilson said after that game. “It’s one thing to do it in practice, another to go out in a game.”
