DeAndrew White, Scout.com four-star wide receiver from North Shore High School in Galena Park, Texas, committed to Alabama last week. He wanted to spend some time Wednesday night talking more about his decision. This is Homecoming week for White and the Crimson Tide.
"I decided a few days ago I wanted to commit to Alabama," said White. "I decided on October 8. I called coach [Nick] Saban to let him know about my decision. He was ecstatic just like I was. We were both on the same page."
"The academics were really important to me. Alabama has a high graduation rate. I watched Julio Jones have an outstanding season last year as a freshman. I noticed that Alabama will play their freshman. That's what I really liked. It’s great to be committed. I can get all the stress off my shoulders.
"I had several offers to choose from. I had schools like Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Florida, just to name a few. When I laid everything out it came down to really only Alabama.
"I went over to Alabama for Junior Day, and I attended their spring game. I am not sure if I will be able to get to any games this year. I loved the atmosphere when I was there. It's a great football crowd and family atmosphere. I loved everything about it. I couldn't find anything negative."
White is impressed with what he is seeing from his future team.
"Alabama is playing awesome this year," he said. "I can't say anything bad about them. I haven't seen them doing anything negative. I can definitely see myself playing there. It's just a great football program. My family is behind me 100-percent. They couldn’t be happier for me."
White is a very versatile athlete with more speed arriving in Tuscaloosa.
"My biggest strength is my speed," he said. "I can make a lot of things happen. I am a return specialist as well. I haven't talked to the coaches about my future role for the team though. I want to finish out my year with a great season."
White talked more about his relationship with the Alabama coaching staff.
"My recruiting coach was Bo Davis," he said. "I have a pretty close relationship with him. I love the way he handles himself. It has been a wonderful opportunity to talk to someone like him. Coach Saban has always been very professional. He goes out there and takes care of his business."
White will graduate from high school in June and undecided about a major.
