UWA volleyball sweeps UAH

HUNTSVILLE | The University of West Alabama volleyball team snapped a two-match losing skid with a 3-0 sweep of UAH on Monday night in Huntsville. The win also pushed UWA into a tie for first place in the Gulf South Conference East Division with West Florida at 6-2 in conference play.

The Tigers took the first two sets by identical scores of 25-16 before closing out the match 25-23. UWA bumps its overall season mark to 26-7 while the Chargers slipped to 8-26 overall.

Senior Jordan Kent powered UWA with a match-high 15 kills. The Decatur native also had three aces. Kent only had two hitting miscues on 22 total attempts. Senior Jessica Crook finished with nine kills and six digs. Junior Thais Hollerbach registered six digs and a match-best eight digs.

The Tigers close out the GSC slate this weekend traveling to Carrollton, Ga. on Friday to face West Georgia before continuing on Valdosta State on Saturday. The UWG duel will get underway at 6 p.m. while the VSU game is set for 3 p.m.
