Three Tide players named to Freshman All-SEC Team

Three first-year players for the Crimson Tide have been named to the Freshman All-SEC team.


Offensive lineman Barrett Jones, running back Trent Richardson and linebacker Nico Johnson were all named to the team, as Alabama prepares to face the Texas Longhorns in the BCS National Championship Game.

Jones started every game for the Tide, helping to fill hole left by the departure of three linemen, two of them All-Americans. Jones was a unanimous selections.

Richardson also contributed in all 13 games and rushed for 642 yards and six touchdowns, behind Heisman Trophy finalist Mark Ingram. He was named the SEC Freshman of the week after games against Florida International and Arkansas.

Johnson played in 11 games, taking a larger role after Dont’a Hightower suffered a season-ending knee against Arkansas. He had 27 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss and one sack, which came in Alabama’s 12-10 win over Tennessee.

Alabama has had 12-players name to All-SEC teams this week and Nick Saban was named the conferences coach of the year.
