TUSCALOOSA | The University of Alabama landed its third commitment for the class of 2011 on Saturday when Shannon Brown, Scout.com three-star linebacker from Cook County High School in Adel, Ga., gave a verbal pledge to the UA coaching staff.
The 6-foot-2, 237-pound prospect, in town for UA’s Junior Day, chose Alabama over numerous other offers from schools that included Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee.
“Brown is a hard-hitting athlete who could end up at middle linebacker or on the defensive line in college,” Scout.com South Regional Manager Chad Simmons said. “His position depends on his size, because he has the feet and athleticism to play inside ‘backer on the next level. If his body continues to grow, then he could end up putting his hand down.
“He is as athletic as they come at this size, but he needs to improve his raw strength and endurance more than anything.”
Brown joins two other members of the 2011 class in Marvin Shinn, Scout.com four-star wide receiver from Vigor High School, and Brent Calloway, four-star inebacker from Russellville High School.
