TUSCALOOSA | The University of Alabama football team received its third in-state commitment Saturday when Danny Woodson Jr. said he would join the class of 2011.
The LeFlore High School wide receiver visited Tuscaloosa on Friday to meet with the coaching staff and tour the facilities. Woodson had remained overnight to practice Saturday as a member of Scout.com’s ‘Team Alabama’ 7-on-7 team.
Numerous other schools were impressed with Woodson. He had scholarship offers from Auburn, Kentucky, Louisville, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Memphis. Additional offers are expected following spring evaluations when college coaches have a chance to take a closer look at prospects on their high school campus.
The 6-foot-2, 198-pound Woodson had 57 catches for 1,463 yards and 25 touchdowns during his junior season. His father, Danny Woodson, was a quarterback at Alabama in the early 1990s.
Woodson Jr. becomes the Tide’s fourth commitment and third in-state. Other members in the class of 2011 are wide receiver Marvin Shinn from Vigor High School in Prichard, linebacker Brent Calloway from Russellville High School and linebacker Shannon Brown from Cook County High School in Adel, Ga.
