Bartlett shows why state should stop fee-based pay
Going to jail should not be a picnic. Prisoners should not expect luxury accommodations or elegant meals, but they do have rights. They have a right to safe shelter and basic nutrition.

New mine safety rules welcome, but too late for some
The Sept. 23, 2001, tragedy at Jim Walter Resources Mine No. 5 in Brookwood, in which 13 coal miners died in an underground explosion, has left an indelible emotional scar that will never go away in our community.
