Kristian Story basically did it all Thursday night.

The Lanett quarterback and University of Alabama commitment passed for 249 yards and two touchdowns, rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns, recovered a fumble and sealed the Class 1A state title game against Mars Hill Bible with an interception at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Story’s Panthers won 41-30 to claim the program’s second title in three years.

“It really hasn’t hit me yet,” Story said. “When I get to the locker room it will probably hit me because I’ll be taking off my uniform for the last time.

“These four years, I wouldn’t trade them for anything.”

Story was the QB for Lanett’s 2017 title team.

“I started off as a role player,” Story said. “Hard work day in and day out with my brothers. Every day in the weight room.”

Story was 18 of 23 passing with no interceptions. He connected on touchdown passes of 28 yards and 30 yards. He rushed 13 times for 110 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

“I remember dropping back and looking for my receivers and everyone was covered,” Story said. “When I took off, the receivers in front of me made great blocks. I used it to the best of my ability and got to the end zone.”

Story is the state’s all-time leader for touchdowns accounted for (175), which Auburn freshman QB Bo Nix set last season with Pinson Valley. Story also has the record for most total yards of offense (13,219), which Nix also set last season.

He’s got 9,070 passing yards, 3,618 rushing and 530 receiving from and accounted for 175 touchdowns (119 passing, 48 rushing and 8 receiving). Story’s 9,070 career passing yards ranks eighth all time and his 119 TD passes ranks third.

He finished his senior season 162-of-237 passing for 2,865 yards and 33 touchdowns. He also had 1,151 yards rushing on 116 carries and 17 touchdowns.
