This should sound familiar.

Alabama gymnastics moved up two spots in the latest rankings after falling to Florida this past weekend, 197.85 to 197.075, on the road. It is now No. 7 and holds an average score of 196.475.

The scores are different, but the same thing happened three weeks ago after Alabama lost at LSU. The Crimson Tide went from ninth to seventh after posting a season-best mark.

UA’s new high is a 197.075, its second score to break 197.

The regular season is now officially halfway over. Six down. Five to go. So, let’s take a quick but deeper look at how Alabama has done so far.

If you ignore Alabama’s Week 4 meet against Missouri for a second, the Crimson Tide has steadily increased its score meet by meet. It started the season with a 195.675 on the road and most recently scored the 197.075 at home. That’s a 1.4-point increase.

Now, going back to Missouri, Alabama did have that 195.85 blemish after two back-to-back 196.5-plus scores. This was the meet UA coach Dana Duckworth called a “hot mess” afterward. Alabama won, but it wasn’t an ideal performance.

The following week, though, the Crimson Tide rebounded very well and posted its first 197 score. It then raised the bar .075 higher to set it to where it is now.

Up next, Alabama hosts No. 9 Kentucky on Friday in Coleman Coliseum for a 7:30 p.m. meet that will air on SEC Network. It will be alumni weekend, too.
