Alabama gymnastics released its 2018 home schedule Thursday afternoon. It features six regular-season meets and an NCAA regional.

The home opener will be on Jan. 12 against Georgia and is the first of four straight SEC meets. Alabama hosts Missouri on Jan. 26 and Arkansas on Feb. 2. Kentucky will be in town on Feb. 16, which is also Alabama’s alumni weekend.

“I am so excited about just the caliber of teams that we have coming,” Alabama coach Dana Duckworth said. “You want to compete against the best throughout your season because it prepares you for what you want to be at, which is the national championship.”

All of the regular-season meets will start at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays in Coleman Coliseum.

Alabama will also welcome two non-conference opponents to close out the home slate. North Carolina and Oklahoma come on March 2 and 16, respectively.

“You have the SEC conference, which is absolutely the strongest gymnastics conference in the country in my opinion, and then you have your Big 12 coming in with Oklahoma and the EAGL coming in with UNC,” Duckworth said. “So I think it shows our fans a variety of the type of athleticism that is in women’s collegiate gymnastics.”

The Sooners are two-time defending NCAA champions. The Crimson Tide finished last season sixth.

As for the regional, it will be on April 7 and mark the 15th time Alabama has been a host. The last time was in 2016.

“There’s nothing better than hosting a regional championship,” Duckworth said. “One, it’s great to be able to compete in front of your home fans who just support us and appreciate gymnastics. The other part is it’s the way to get to the national championship.”

Also, Alabama has plans to introduce this year’s team before the season even starts with its new Crimson and White Preview on Dec. 8.
