HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Alabama sophomore Angelica Moresco carded a 1-under par 70 on Friday and is in a tie for sixth overall after the opening round of the 2019 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. As a team, the 16th-ranked Crimson Tide ended the day with a team total of 309 and is in 17th place heading into Saturday’s second round of play.

Moresco played stellar golf throughout the tournament’s first 18 holes, closing play with four birdies to go with three bogeys resulting in her below par round. It marked her team-leading seventh round of par or lower this season and matched the best opening round score in her two-year Alabama career. She will come into the second round just two strokes back of the individual leader Frida Kinhult of Florida State (68).

Junior Jiwon Jeon, who was announced as a member of the International Team for the 2019 Arnold Palmer Cup a day before the tournament began, ended the day at 5-over par 76 and is in a tie for 52nd after Friday’s opening 18 holes. Junior Kenzie Wright is in a tie for 73rd place with a 78 on the par 71, 6,160-yard Pete Dye Course at Long Cove Club, while freshmen Carolina Caminoli and Mary Mac Trammell both carded an 85 to round out the Crimson Tide golfers.

Tournament host and No. 10-ranked South Carolina is the clubhouse leader after carding a 2-under par 282 to hold a two-stroke lead over No. 19 Florida State (280). Wake Forest (285), ranked No. 13 nationally, is in third while No. 3 Duke (289) and LSU (290) round out the top five teams. Every team in this year’s tournament field is ranked among the nation’s top-60, including 11 among the top-20 teams in the country, according to most recent Golfstat.com national rankings.
