BIRMINGHAM – After a record-breaking performance last Friday, freshman guard John Petty was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.
The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 22 points, five rebounds and two assists in wins against Lipscomb and Alabama A&M. It is the first freshman weekly honor for any Crimson Tide player since Braxton Key earned the accolade on Jan. 30, 2017.
The Huntsville native set a new school record Friday by knocking down 10 three-pointers to propel the Crimson Tide past Alabama A&M, 104-67. Petty’s 10 three-pointers is tied for fourth all-time in SEC history and is the first time an SEC player has had 10 or more three-pointers in a game since Michael Frazier of Florida (March 4, 2014).
