For the second straight year, the University of Alabama men’s basketball team had a crowded Pro Day — this time without a projected lottery pick.
More than 30 scouts representing 24 NBA teams were on hand on Wednesday afternoon to watch several Crimson Tide players with a possible NBA future. Sophomore Herbert
Jones and senior Donta Hall have been mentioned in numerous mock drafts but John Petty, Tevin Mack and more also are considered possibilities.
The scouts and personnel were in attendance to watch the team go through a two-hour practice Wednesday, per a UA release. The Crimson Tide showcased a variety of elements during the practice, including drills, in-game situations and an intrasquad scrimmage.
“It was an amazing event,” Alabama head coach Avery Johnson said. “This is important, because players on our team who aspire to have a professional career in basketball have the chance to show case their talents. Since this is our second annual pro day, our returners have the chance to show how they have improved with their bodies, the mental part of the game, and their stamina. It is a great way to showcase our student-athletes and help them get some great exposure in front of some NBA scouts that were on hand today. We prepared ourselves by trying to play our game and not over doing it. Do what you do and do it to the best of your abilities.”
“It really is just trying to play hard and not do too much,” sophomore forward Alex Reese said. “You have to practice being intense. With them (NBA scouts) here, it makes you want to go even harder. You just have to be yourself, and don’t try and do anything extra. Play within yourself and play hard. We tried to go about it like a normal practice, but with this many NBA teams here, it is going to get more competitive.”
The 2018-2019 Crimson Tide team will make its public debut on Monday as the UA men’s and women’s teams have their annual Tide Tip-off.
