The University of Alabama men’s basketball team lost 92-66 in an NCAA-sanctioned “secret scrimmage” at Coleman Coliseum on Saturday morning.
Per NCAA rules, media were not allowed to view the scrimmage and Alabama was not allowed to release statistics. The News obtained game statistics from an individual not affiliated with UA.
The Crimson Tide used 11 different players, with none playing more than 26 minutes as Coach Avery Johnson clearly experimented with different combinations. But UA shot poorly (21 of 55) and committed 25 turnovers, numbers that stood out even with fluctuating lineups.
Sophomore forward Herb Jones led Alabama with 17 points, while freshman center Galin Smith added 15 on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor. Freshman Kira Lewis added 10 points and two assists
Jacksonville State, which was recently predicted to finish third in the Ohio Valley Conference in the preseason OVC coaches’ poll, was led by Jason Burnell’s 20 points.
Alabama will play its only exhibition game on Tuesday night, hosting Montevallo at 7 p.m.
