COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Alabama women’s basketball dropped its road contest to Texas A&M, 70-43, on Sunday afternoon inside Reed Arena. With the loss, the Crimson Tide falls to 9-8, 1-3 SEC on the year, while the Aggies improve to 13-4, 2-2 SEC.
Junior Cierra Johnson led the Tide with eight points and six rebounds as eight different UA players scored in the game.
Texas A&M jumped out to a 15-6 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Aggies held the 31-17 advantage at the halftime break and continued to lead in double figures for the majority of the second half.
In the third quarter, freshman De’Sha Benjamin cut the A&M lead to nine when she finished the old-fashioned three-point play with four minutes to go. The Aggies responded by finishing the third frame on a 13-0 run to go up 53-31 heading to the final quarter. A&M continued to hold the lead to the eventual final, 70-43.
Alabama returns home for two consecutive home games, first against No. 13 Tennessee on Thursday at 8 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum. The second game against the Lady Vols will air live on SEC Network.
