Trendon Watford, the state’s top high school basketball prospect, said Monday that he would postpone a previously scheduled announcement at the Jordan Brand game in Las Vegas from April 20 and set a different date.
“Due to the Jordan Brand game not being televised this year I will be postponing my announcement,” Watford said via his Twitter account. “New announcement date will be coming soon.”
Watford had previously posted that he was down to five schools; Alabama, Duke, Indiana, LSU and Memphis.
A four-star forward, the 6-foot-7 Watford led Mountain Brook to three consecutive AHSAA Class 7A state titles. He averaged 23.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots per game as a senior.
The late signing period for basketball begins on Wednesday. Alabama is expected to sign 6-9 center Raymond Hawkins of Findlay Prep School in Henderson, Nevada. The Crimson Tide also received a commitment on Sunday from grad transfer point guard Beetle Bolden, who averaged 14 points per game at West Virginia last season.
