Something has clicked for the Alabama women’s basketball team.
After taking down No. 9 Mississippi State last week on the road, the Crimson Tide went on the road again and knocked off No. 12 Texas A&M on Thursday.
The Crimson Tide tries to keep the momentum going with a home game against Missouri, the final game of the regular season before the SEC Tournament begins in Greenville, S.C.
On Thursday, the Crimson Tide stopped the Aggies’ four-game win streak. Jasmine Walker led the pack with 24 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Ariyah Copeland followed close behind with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
“Connecting on and off the court has really been working for us,” senior Ashley Knight said. “The more we get connected, the more confident and encouraged we get with our teammates, the more successful we are.”
Missouri is coming off of a 95-82 loss against Auburn. With this being the last game of the regular season, both teams are looking to finish strong in preparation for the postseason.
“It has been a really good week and a half for us, but we have to stay consistent,” head coach Kristy Curry said. “Staying consistent in our preparation will lead us to success.”
Alabama is looking to its fans for support as it will be senior night. The Tide will be honoring seniors Amber Richardson, Cierra Johnson, and Knight.
“This season taught me how to be a leader, resilient, and mature,” Johnson said. “All of those characteristics carry over to any game so if I implement them into the game against Missouri, we will be successful.”
For some seniors, Sunday’s game will be emotional as they play their final regular season game in Coleman Coliseum.
“With my senior night being on Sunday, it feels unreal,” Knight said. “It came pretty fast and I am going to miss these girls.
“It’s so surreal that this is the last game I get to play in Coleman Coliseum and I am just hoping we get the win.”
Curry expressed how proud she is of each of the seniors and excited to see what they will be able to accomplish after college.
