A spring of turnover for the University of Alabama men’s basketball program continues.
Forward Galin Smith will enter the transfer portal as a grad transfer, as first reported by AL.com, now the third former UA player to enter the transfer portal this offseason, joining freshman forward/center Raymond Hawkins and freshman guard Jaylen Forbes.
Smith came to UA as a three-star prospect from Clinton, Mississippi. He was the No. 3 prospect in the Magnolia State in 2017 and averaged 3.2 points per game and 2.1 rebounds per game over his career, 2.1 and 2.3 last year, respectively.
Smith had a habit of showing up against the schools from his home state. His three games against them last season (two against Mississippi State, one against Ole Miss) produced 19 percent of his total points (19 of 97) in just 11 percent of his total minutes. On March 14, 2019, in the SEC Tournament, Smith added 11 points, seven rebounds and a black to a SEC Tournament win over the Rebels.
Smith is now the fourth departure, joining the two transfers and Kira Lewis Jr. as a 2020 NBA Draft entrant. John Petty Jr. could join Lewis in the draft, but if he returns (as Herbert Jones already has), UA will have its full scholarship allotment taken care of as it adds its five signees later this summer.
