Forward Galin Smith announced on Tuesday that he would play his final season at the University of Maryland as a graduate transfer after three years at Alabama
Smith made the announcement via social media
I would like to thank all of the coaches that took out the time to recruit and show interest in me. After many talks with God and my family I’ve been led in the direction to join Coach Turgeon and the Maryland family!🐢❤️ pic.twitter.com/IVfe2HVI2C

He is the third Alabama player to transfer since the season ended, joining freshman forward/center Raymond Hawkins (Long Beach State) and freshman guard Jaylen Forbes (Tulane).
Smith came to UA as a three-star prospect from Clinton, Mississippi. He was the No. 3 prospect in the Magnolia State in 2017 and averaged 3.2 points per game and 2.1 rebounds per game over his career, 2.1 and 2.3 last year, respectively. He appeared in all 31 of Alabana’s games in 2019-2020.
Smith had a habit of showing up against the schools from his home state. His three games against them last season (two against Mississippi State, one against Ole Miss) produced 19 percent of his total points (19 of 97) in just 11 percent of his total minutes. On March 14, 2019, in the SEC Tournament, Smith added 11 points, seven rebounds and a black to a SEC Tournament win over the Rebels.
Smith is now the fourth departure, joining the two transfers and Kira Lewis Jr. as a 2020 NBA Draft entrant. John Petty Jr. could join Lewis in the draft, but if he returns (as Herbert Jones already has), UA will have its full scholarship allotment taken care of as it adds its five signees later this summer.
