PITTSBURGH – Alabama forward Donta Hall remains day-to-day, coach Avery Johnson said on Wednesday.
Hall will likely be a gametime decision when Alabama faces Virginia Tech on Thursday night, Johnson said. He did participate in Alabama’s open practice on Wednesday at PPG Paints Arena.
“He hasn’t been able to do much in practice,” Johnson said. “He did a little bit today but now we have to see how he recovers. He’ll be a gametime decision.”
Johnson said it’s probably “60-40” whether Hall plays or not. Hall was not made available to speak to the media on Wednesday.
“I’m more concerned about the 40 than I am the 60,” Johnson said.
Hall is Alabama’s second-leading scorer with 10.9 points per game and leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per game. He has shot 72.1 percent from the field this season. He also led the team and ranked in top five in the SEC with 2.1 blocks per game.
“He’s very important,” guard Avery Johnson Jr. said. “He gives us an inside presence, a veteran presence. He’s efficient around the basket, probably shooting 75 percent on the year. We need him to be up front. If he can’t go, it’s going to be next man up.”
Hall was injured in the second half of Alabama’s win over Auburn in the SEC tournament. He did not play in the Crimson Tide’s loss to Kentucky in the SEC tournament semifinals and was considered day-to-day earlier this week.
