Alabama freshman De’Sha Benjamin was named the Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week. The honor is the first of Benjamin’s career and the first for an Alabama player since junior Jordan Lewis earned SEC Freshman of the Week five times back in 2016-17.

Benjamin shared the award with fellow freshman Mimi Reid from Ole Miss.

On Sunday, Benjamin totaled a career-high 16 points to go along with six rebounds in just 18 minutes off the bench in the Crimson Tide’s 87-73 win over Northwestern State. Benjamin knocked down three shots from beyond the arc, tying her career-best in three-pointers made. The 16 points are the most scored by an Alabama freshman so far this season.

For the year, the Augusta, Ga., native is the Tide’s leading scorer off the bench with 9.3 points and 4.7 rebounds through 11 games. Benjamin also leads UA in three-point shooting with 18 makes and a 42 percent mark from downtown.
