Collin Sexton was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday after big performances in the Crimson Tide’s last three games.
Sexton scored a season-high 29 points on 8-of-15 shooting with four assists and one turnover in a 77-76 win over Texas-Arlington on Tuesday to start the week. He had 10 points and seven rebounds in a 71-59 win over BYU in the Barclays Classic.
His biggest performance came in Alabama’s 89-84 loss to No. 14 Minnesota in the Barclays Classic championship game. He poured in a career-high 40 points, adding six rebounds and five assists. Sexton and Alabama began to cut into a deficit against the Gophers despite playing with five players, then playing three on five after one player was injured and another fouled out.
For the week, Sexton averaged 26.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and four assists. He was 23-for-48 from the field during the week (47.9%) and shot 27-36 (75%) from the free throw line.
