The team worked inside Bryant-Denny Stadium in full pads Saturday afternoon for the first scrimmage of spring. The practice was open to Red Elephant Club members and A-Club members. Media members were allowed to watch about 10 minutes of the opening of practice. Here is what I observed during the at viewing window.

Offensive line

The first organizational group had (from left tackle to right tackle) Jonah Williams, Ross Pierschbacher, Bradley Bozeman, Lester Cotton and Matt Womack. There will undoubtedly be more players looked at in different combinations throughout the scrimmage.

Tight ends

Miller Forristall was the first player in drills followed by Hale Hentges, Irv Smith and Ronnie Clark.

Quarterbacks

Obviously Jalen Hurts is the returning starter and was first in all group drills. I said this the first week of spring practice and I’ll repeat for those who missed it. Tua Tagovailoa throws a great pass. His accuracy is top notch and his release is quick. He can also spin it quite nicely. All that said, throwing against air and then throwing against a defense coming at you are two different things.

Middle linebackers

Rashaan Evans was up first followed by Keith Holcombe and Mack Wilson. Remember that Shaun Dion Hamilton is still recovering from the torn ACL.
