Alabama punter JK Scott was named to the Ray Guy watch list on Wednesday morning. He was among 29 players on the preseason watch list for the award, given to the best punter in the country.

Scott was a first-team All-SEC selection in 2016 as a junior. He ranked third nationally while averaging 47.2 yards per punt but was not a semifinalist for the Ray Guy award.

“JK Scott is probably one of the best punters in the country,” Nick Saban said at SEC Media Days. “That’s the start of having good specialists.”

Scott was a finalist for the award as a freshman in 2014, when he led the nation by averaging 48.0 yards per punt. He also dropped more than 56 percent of his punts inside the 20 that season to rank third in the nation.

This is his third straight year Scott has been on the preseason watch list for the Ray Guy Award.
