Senior linebacker was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Hamilton had eight tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack in Alabama’s opener on Saturday against then-No. 3 Florida State. It was his first game back after tearing his ACL in the SEC championship in December.

The Alabama defense held the Seminoles to 250 total yards, including just 123 yards after the first two drives. FSU ran for just 40 yards in the game.

It is the first time in his career that Hamilton has been named the conference’s defensive player of the week.
