Alabama linebacker Mekhi Brown is transferring to Tennessee State, he announced on Twitter on Monday night. The (Nashville) Tennessean had reported the news earlier in the afternoon.

Brown had just concluded his redshirt sophomore season with the program while playing outside linebacker. He played mostly on special teams in 2017, finishing the season with seven tackles. He redshirted in 2015 and did not record any stats during 2016.
Brown struggled to find playing time during this season even as injuries to Alabama’s linebackers forced young players on the field ahead of him.
He drew attention to himself during the national championship game when he was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after trying to hit a Georgia player following a play. When he returned to the Alabama sideline, he had a verbal confrontation with Alabama staffer Kerry Stevenson. Brown appeared to lunge at Stevenson before teammates restrained him.
Brown did return to the game and made a tackle on special teams after that incident. Coach Nick Saban said the following day he was unaware of what occurred on the sideline. According to The Tennessean, Brown will have to meet some conditions with the Tennessee State program as a result of his actions in the national championship game.
