Cornerback Eddie Smith committed to Alabama on Wednesday morning at a signing ceremony at Salmen High School.

He chose Alabama over Tennessee and Mississippi State.

Smith, a three-star recruit, becomes the first recruit of the day to sign with Alabama, coming after defensive tackle Bobby Brown flipped to Texas A&M.

Smith is the fourth defensive back in the Tide’s 2018 class, as he joins 4-star prospects Jalyn-Armour Davis, Josh Jobe and Saivion Smith. Alabama is still in contention for Patrick Surtain Jr., who decides at 9 a.m.

The secondary is a major priority coming into signing day for Alabama, as its top six defensive backs from 2017 all graduated or entered the NFL draft.

Smith, from Slidell, Louisiana, visited Alabama on Jan. 26.
