Alabama coach Nick Saban was among 20 candidates on the preseason watch list for the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award.
The Dodd Trophy is given by the Chick fil-A Peach Bowl and the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation to the coach of a team that is successful on the field “while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity.” The award considers graduation rate, community service, on-field success and Academic Progress Rate.
Saban previously won the award in 2014. Auburn’s Gus Malzahn, South Carolina’s Will Muschamp and Georgia’s Kirby Smart were also on the preseason watch list. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, an Alabama alum who won the award in 2011, was also included.
