WEDNESDAY RECAP FROM SEC MEDIA DAYS

Alabama running back Damien Harris was among 62 candidates on the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award, it was announced on Wednesday.

The Doak Walker Award is presented annually to “the nation’s premier running back for his accomplishments on the field, achievement in the classroom and citizenship in the community.” He was also a preseason candidate for the award in 2017.

Harris returns to Alabama for his senior season after rushing for 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons. If he rushes for 1,000 yards this season, he would be the first player in school history to do so.

He has 2,194 career rushing yards and has 14 rushing touchdowns. He’s averaged 6.7 yards per carry for his career, second-best in school history. He also has 203 career receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.

Trent Richardson won the award in 2011 and Derrick Henry won it in 2015. You can see the full list of preseason candidates here.

Harris was also named as a preseason candidate for the Maxwell Award earlier this week.
