Five Alabama players were chosen as semifinalists for three different college football awards.
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is one of 20 Maxwell Award semifinalists. That honor is given to the player of the year. Former running back Derrick Henry won it in 2015, while former quarterback AJ McCarron received it in 2013.
Defensive back Deionte Thompson and lineman Quinnen Williams have been named semifinalists for the Bednarik Award, which honors the best defensive player. There are 20 semifinalists. Former defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick won it last year, and former lineman Jonathan Allen got it in 2016.
Dylan Moses and Mack Wilson are among the Dick Butkus Award’s 10 semifinalists. The honor goes to the nation’s top linebacker. Alabama has had multiple players take home this award: Reuben Foster (2016), C.J. Mosley (2013), Rolando McClain (2009) and Derrick Thomas (1988).
